More about the bees

mason beesThe Bees are flying!

I’ve been so excited to watch our newly emerged Mason Bees flying around the garden this spring.  Any day now they should begin to lay their eggs (see my prior blog on how and where this will happen).  One thing I realize now, is that I should have purchased more bees.  Starting out with 20 bees seemed like a reasonable number, but only 18 emerged and now I’m reading that predators such as our local chickadees or woodpeckers may reduce those numbers even further.  So, next year (failing a bumper crop of baby bees from the original queens), I’ll order double that number of bees.  Read more at Crown Bees
